XV Workshop on Neurobiology of Epilepsy – WONOEP 2019

WONOEP XV, a satellite event of the 33rd ILAE/IBE International Epilepsy Congress, will take place at Ayutthaya, Thailand. The main topic of WONOEP XV is WHAT IS A SEIZURE? The overall purpose of WONOEP XV will be to discuss working definitions and classification schemes for epileptic seizures across the lifespan, improve methods of seizure recognition, detection, and classification and facilitate translation across species.

WONOEP XV is dedicated to Professor Uwe Heinemann for his invaluable contributions in understanding the mechanisms and pathogenesis of seizures and epilepsy and WONOEP meetings.

Abstract submission is now closed.

Applicants should submit abstracts of their work that addresses the following session themes:

Session A: What is a focal onset seizure?
Session B: What is generalized onset seizure?
Session C: What is seizure in an immature rodent?
Session D: What is the borderland between epileptic events and non-epileptic events?

Applicants are encouraged to present published or unpublished data on the defining and differentiating features, sources and mechanisms of various epileptic seizure types across the lifespan, in both preclinical seizure models and humans, and their relevance to specific human seizure types and epilepsy syndromes. Abstracts highlighting possible limitations of existing approaches for seizure detection, classification, and translation across species, as well as differentiation from nonepileptic events will also be considered.

A maximum of 40 abstracts strictly related to the main topic will be selected and the authors will be invited to WONOEP after 1 January 2019. Lodging and meals will be provided to the selected participants. Travel costs will not be supported. A WONOEP registration fee of 100 Euros is applied to all selected participants which should be paid before 16 April 2019.

The WONOEP registration fee will be waived if the invited authors also submit an abstract, present or register for the 2019 ILAE/IBE International Epilepsy Congress in Bangkok.

Requests for bursaries for travel expenses may be considered after notification of abstract selection, for selected investigators invited to participate in the WONOEP and depending on funding availability.

WONOEP 2019 is organised by the WONOEP Task Force of the ILAE Neurobiology Commission and the Neurobiology Commission of the ILAE.
